How to Format a Press Release in MLA

The Modern Language Association Manual of Style is used to cite sources in humanities and liberal arts research papers. MLA style necessitates both in-text citations and a Works Referenced page, which contains pertinent information for all sources cited in the article. In both the text and the Works Cited section, press releases follow the same format as books.

How to cite a press release in MLA

The Modern Language Association Manual of Style is used to cite sources in humanities and liberal arts research papers. The MLA style necessitates both in-text citations and a Works Referenced page, which contains pertinent information for all sources cited in the article. In both the text and the Works Cited section, press releases follow the same format as books.

Works Cited in Books entries include the author’s name, title, publishing city, publisher, publication year, and publication medium. Since most news releases are issued by an organization, the organization’s name is substituted for the author’s. For instance:

The Walt Disney Company. Shanghai Disney Resort Accelerates Resort Expansion (in italics). Burbank: The Walt Disney Company, April 28, 2014. Web. 1 June 2014.

To properly format this quotation, use a French indent and verify that the dates are formatted as day-month-year. If there is no date of publication, put “n.d.” for “no date.” If the news release was found on the Internet, the date it was found should come after the word “Web.”

Internal Citations

To properly structure MLA in-text citations, include the first entry in your Works Cited list. In the preceding example, ‘The Walt Disney Company’ should be enclosed in parentheses. You are not required to specify a website’s URL or page number.
